Warning - Don't Get Trapped Into The Affiliate Egg Factor

What is the affiliate egg factor? We'll simply put it's what happens when affiliate marketers place all their affiliate eggs in the same basket.

When you are marketing online you need to use as many options as you possibly can to market your websites and affiliate businesses. You should spread your marketing out using as many different marketing methods as feasibly possible. Most marketers fail to do this and suffer drastic hits to their affiliate marketing business... usually overnight.

You should be using search engine marketing, pay per click advertising, article writing, reviewing, ezine advertising, newsletter publishing and a host of the other internet marketing tactics that are available to you. When you rely on just one or two marketing formats (lazy marketing) you are just asking for trouble right from the start.

A perfect example is the common "Google Death" trap that hits the internet every couple of months. Those marketers and affiliates that have all their eggs in the google basket often find themselves suddenly scrambling to replace thousands of dollars in monthly affiliate income because their pages have been suddenly dropped from the google search results.

Why does this happen?

Well in the google example, google is simply using a new method of ranking and displaying sites in their index. They are improving their search system and working on removing spam pages, and many times (most times) this will affect even legitimate sites who would never ever think of trying to spam. Google is a finicky beast and not reliable for consistent traffic. The more they tweak their system the more screwed up their results become and it will affect your traffic if you're solely relying on them.

People, the internet changes often, it twists and turns and rears it's head around from time to time so you have to be prepared in advance for changes. If you are focusing on one type of Internet marketing you are walking a tightrope made of yarn!

Another example that hit a lot of marketers in the pay per click field is when companies like overture, findwhat and the like started requiring minimum bids for their paid listings. Almost overnight people were forced to pay double to as high as five times their advertising costs basically forcing them right out of the service. Imagine the lost affiliate income from being forced to use a new marketing method. Many businesses went out of business because this turned out to be their sole source of customers. If these people had been using multiple marketing methods and advertising they would have simply suffered a slight bruise instead of the deadly beating they received.

So the moral of this story is; "don't put all your affiliate marketing eggs in the same basket or you might find your basket missing in the morning!"

Here's to your success,

Dave
